Personal vs Commercial Licenses
If you're wondering "which license do I actually need?", you're not alone. Here's the simple version.
Personal licenses
Best for individual use cases: home projects, students, hobbyists, freelancers buying for themselves, etc.
Commercial licenses
For business / professional use where you need proper compliance (studios, companies, teams, etc.).
Autodesk Inventor for a company — commercial vs educational
If you need Autodesk Inventor for a business, use commercial licensing — start with Find my product or our commercial
listings. Educational / institutional Autodesk programs are a different track with their own eligibility; each product
page states who it is for. Schools and universities: if you are unsure, ask in live chat and we will point you to the
right option.
Who manages users for licenses bought through CADLicenses?
CADLicenses manages licensing and seat assignments for orders with us. Each user signs in to Autodesk with the licensed
email assigned to their subscription to download and run the software. Seat and assignment changes (for example updating
the license email) go through CADLicenses — My Subscriptions where self-service exists, or our support team — not as
something you fully administer on your own only through Autodesk Account.
Can I use personal for my business?
You might technically buy a personal license as an individual, but if you're using it for business work, you generally
want commercial to stay compliant with vendor licensing rules.
Not sure what to pick?
Use Find my product on our store — it asks a few questions and points you in the right direction.
